Using your cisco 6500 fiber optical level monitor

Cisco has a feature call  DOM ( digital optical monitor ) that  allows you to acquire  light optics measurement while in production. Keep in mind, this is not available in all cisco transceivers,  nor not always supported in 3rd parties transceivers.


To enable DOM we need to 1st configured it;

Next by using the correct show commands, we can  measure the RX lights per interfaces;

If  the light level drops below our thresholds we will see an alert in our logs and snmptraps
